Maharashtra History

The yesteryears of Maharashtra were awe inspiring and interesting. The state has its mention in Mauryan Empire, Chalukyan inscriptions and from the popular Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang. The state was under reign of Yadava dynasty, Ala-ud-Din khalji, Muhammad Bin Tughluq, Brahmani Sultanate, Deccan Sultanates, Vijayanagar Empire, Adil Shah, Maratha Empire, Peshwas, Mughal Empire and Britisher’s East India Company. In year 1848, Britishers merged Satara into Bombay Presidency. Nagpur was established in 1853 as Nagpur Province. Many states were merged into Indian Territory after Independence through a military operation Polo. Later, under State Recognition Act in 1956, the tow regions named as Vidarbha and Marathwara were merged into Bombay. Mass protests took place to create an independent Marathi speaking state of Maharashtra.

Maharashtra is the heart of India situated in its central part comprises of total area 308,000km2.
