Before 700 years ago, Ajmer was held by Chechi Gurjars. The founder of this sacred city was Ajayraj Singh Chauhan in 7th centuary AD. Thus, the branch of Chechi Gurjars is Chauhan clan which ruled in Ajmer through their muslim Turkic armies. This city was later ruled by a founder of Delhi Sultanate in 1193 known as Muhammad of Ghor. In 1365, the city observed independence under the region of Mewar ruler. Later, the holy city Ajmer was managed and controlled by the kings of Mewar and Marwar in 1509. Again the city was conquered by Marwar in 1532. During 1553, the city was ruled by Hem Chandra Vikramaditya who was a Hindu emperor and was killed in second battle of Panipat in 1556. The state was again ruled in 1559 by a Mughal Emperor Akbar. During 1700 century, the state came under control of Marathas. Finally Ajmer became a part of Rajasthan in 1956. We have seen that this city was ruled by many rules for a long period of time.
